Today I went to go see the Balenciaga and Spain Exhibit in the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. IT IS SO AMAZING YOU GUYS. I am a fashion n00000b and still it was fascinating, beautiful even if you have no idea how much of a technical masterpiece it is. So. Balenciaga. (this is going to be long and picture heavy, so...yeah)

With a first name like Cristóbal and a family history of being in the business and making a Parisian suit at AGE ELEVEN he never, ever ever stopped creating. He ended his career with the most beautifully abstract dresses that are reminiscent of a refine, structured, austere Gareth Pugh.

The second one is so versatile you can move the cloudpiece up and down so you can have...arms out.
ajsgdask there was this caterpillar dress that WAS SO INGENIUS GUYS SO AMAZING but I cannot find pictures. *keyboard smash*
On green dresses, here is one of my favorites.

THERE IS ONE SEAM GUYS ONLY ONE SEAM. he is a master of drapery, tight stitches, and minimal seams. ajsdgklaj a;jal its cuter with this bow that they don't show but BLARGH.
So that Picasso thing...well, people call him the Picasso of fashion. He, however, was recognized in his era as a master. Christian Dior called him a conductor, and himself a musician. guuh rivalry looooove.
So here are his Spanish dance influenced pieces-

The black lace is sumptuous, guys, and SO BLACK. So black is his black they had a whole shpiel about how black his black was.

My favorite is the one on the far left, in which the black organza looks like feather. Black Swan anyone? The bustier is actually detachable, and there is a totally black dress underneath.
Here is a bullfighting inspired embellished bolero-

It is so, so well embroidered and cut, and designed, and simply luscious.
Here is court inspired dresses,

The one on the right, the pattern is AMAZING. I stared at it for a minute. It is hand made for him, and his design is centered to flatter the figure and entrance the eyes with minute differences and the wrap can be moved up and down to be a shawl, too.
A religious influenced ones-

The clean, clean lines are reminiscent of a monk's robe, and the lines guys, the drapery is exquisite.
Here are some more in-depth pictures and his influences. The first is the back of the dress before the last, and his red cloak, with the two collars, and the other red one with the floating sleeves. The clothes literally look like they are suspended on nothing but air, and they would make you look as if you were dancing on clouds if you wore them.
I also went thrift store shopping and got a 37 dollar cashmere sweater, which is slightly baggy but I do like them like that. Now I just have to figure out how to wash it without having to dry clean it. o-o.
